The oldest of four children, she was homeschooled prior to attending Toronto District Christian High School, where she graduated as an Ontario Scholar. Planning to pursue a science degree, Olivia felt compelled to change course and instead selected Tyndale University where she would have the opportunity to explore psychology and philosophy from a Christian perspective. She was awarded the President’s Scholarship of Distinction (2018-2021), the Undergraduate Studies Faculty Scholarship (2020 and 2021), the Violet Coull Flawn Scholarship (2021), the Jean C. Scott Memorial Award in General Arts (2022), and was named to the Dean’s Honour List throughout her studies. Tyndale reaffirmed not only her love of learning, but also her desire to help others learn. Working throughout her studies, Olivia became a tutor and writing consultant at the Centre for Academic Excellence. Navigating the pandemic was central to the development of Olivia’s appreciation of learning in community and the decision to move onto campus for her final year where she could connect with fellow students and engage in spirited discussions. Tyndale has been pivotal to her growth, academically and spiritually. Olivia plans to pursue a graduate degree in biblical studies to deepen her own understanding of the world and its Creator, and to further her ability to continue helping others grow in their own understanding. [ Page ] 7 [ Page 8 of 12 ] [ Heading 6 ] CONVOCATION SPEAKER Terry LeBlanc, PhD, DD, DD (hc) Terry LeBlanc was born in Toronto to a family of intertwined relational history; his birth grandfather was Mi’kmaq and his grandfather of birth record, Acadian. His family and extended family members identify with each to varying degrees, some fully engaged in Mi’kmaq ways of being and culture, some more in the Acadian cultural context, still others “simply Canadian.” Though conscious of their mixed ancestry, Terry was raised by his parents to embrace, value, and live into the Mi’kmaw culture and lifeways. Terry and his wife Bev are in their 50th year of marriage. They have three adult children - twin daughters, Jennifer, and Jeanine, and one son, Matt. He is the founding chair and current Director of NAIITS: An Indigenous Learning Community (NAIITS). In addition to directing the work of NAIITS, he serves as instructor and/ or consultant in the decolonization of curriculum at Acadia Divinity College, the University of Divinity in Melbourne, Australia, and Tyndale University. He has over 45 years of Indigenous community-based experience as an educator in theology, cultural anthropology, and community development practice. In 2010, for his work on the creation of NAIITS, he became the 28th recipient of the Dr. E. H. Johnson Memorial Award for Innovation, an award he holds in common with Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa and Bishop Elias Shakour of Palestine. In 2015, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Acadia University, and in 2019, he was awarded a second honorary Doctor of Divinity from Knox College at the University of Toronto. Terry holds an interdisciplinary PhD from Asbury Theological Seminary, specializing in Theology and Anthropology. He also holds a certification in Asset-based Community Development from the Case Western Reserve University’s Global Excellence in Management (GEM) program. He is also an ordained clergyperson. Later it changed its name to Toronto Bible College and in 1968 merged with the London College of Bible and Missions to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976 to offer graduate theological education. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring William Tyndale (1494-1536), the early English reformer whose commitment to making Scripture available to all persons led him to undertake the first English translation of the Bible from original languages. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, following a robust review by the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB), Tyndale was granted university college status by the Province of Ontario. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary’s graduate degrees, including the Doctor of Ministry degree, are accredited by The Commission on Accrediting of The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. In early 2020, following another review by PEQAB and their recommendation to the Ministry, Ministerial consent was granted to use the name Tyndale University. Tyndale’s name was legally changed in December 2020 through an act of legislation to Tyndale University to clarify its standing as a postsecondary institution that focuses on high-quality academics and professional programs at the undergraduate, seminary and graduate levels. Undergraduate level options include a BA, BBA, BRE, and BEd degree or a certificate in Christian Studies. Graduate level options include an MA, MTS, MDiv, DMin, post-DMin, or graduate diploma. Tyndale presently serves 1,600 students annually representing more than 40 denominations and 60 ethnic backgrounds. Today, Tyndale alumni are making a difference in the world and are working in private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
