While at York, she developed passion for sports, specifically in fitness, endurance sports, and golf. She has run over 25 marathon races and completed two Ironman Triathlons. Her interest opened doors to part-time employment as a personal trainer. Working with individuals in the field of physical wellness led to an expanded interest in mental health and the opportunities and need for counselling professionals. Her own life experiences also impacted her decision to come to Tyndale to study Counselling, beginning in 2012. Her time at Tyndale has further nurtured and developed this passion for mental health awareness and education. Upon graduation, Lyndsay hopes to gain a wide range of counselling experiences and plans to continue her education with the long-term goal of teaching at the graduate Level. Lyndsay describes her time at Tyndale as a season of healing, growth, and challenge. She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to attend Tyndale. 13 [ Page 14 of 16 ] [ Heading 13 ] HONORARY DOCTORATE [ Heading 13.1 ] Hyeon Soo Lim Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim immigrated to Toronto, Canada from Seoul, South Korea in 1986 and went on to be the longest serving Senior Pastor at the Light Presbyterian Church, currently located in Mississauga, Ontario. Under his leadership, the small five famiLy church grew to become one of Canada’s largest Korean-Canadian congregations with approximateLy 3,000 members. With his Campus Crusade for Christ background and training, the Light Presbyterian Church became a leader and model for Missions, in particular to the Unengaged, Unreached PeopLe Groups (UUPG) amongst the Korean Diaspora churches. Rev. Lim has led missions trips and movements in nations such as Afghanistan, Haiti, Israel, China, Brazil, Cuba, Kazakhstan, India, the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Mali, Mexico, Jordan, Pakistan, and North Korea to name a few. He has also been invited to speak on numerous occasions in Canada, the US, and in South Korea, on the topic of missions, the Korean diaspora, and raising the next generation of leaders. Recently, he was released after being detained in North Korea from February 2015 until August 2017. Prior to his detainment, he has spear-headed an 18 year humanitarian missions to North Korea which included immediate relief (coats, blankets, food), education (technology and language), community building projects (orphanages, nursing homes, noodle factories), and long-term sustainable projects (farming, fishing, infrastructure organization). Despite his detainment, he harbors no resentment or bitterness and continues to ask the global Church to keep North Korea in their prayers. He was detained in isolation and sentenced to hard labour, being released on "sick bail" after 2 years, 6 months and 9 days. He hopes to share about his experience to encourage, challenge, and inspire others to live with a bold missional heart. Rev. Lim loves the Canadian outdoors and enjoys fishing, traveling, and spending time with his wife, son and daughter-in-law and his granddaughter. 14 [ Page 15 of 16 ] [ Heading 14 ] ABOUT TYNDALE [ Heading 14.1 ] TYNDALE’S HISTORY Tyndale University College & Seminary was founded in 1894 as the Toronto Bible Training School, the first school of its kind in Canada. Later known as Toronto Bible CoLLege, it merged in 1968 with the London College of Bible and Missions to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976 to provide theological education at the graduate level. In 1998, the name Tyndale was adopted, honouring William Tyndale (1494- 1536), the early English reformer whose commitment to making Scripture more widely accessible led him to undertake the first English translation of the Bible, at the cost of his own life. In 2003, Tyndale University College & Seminary was legislated by the Province of Ontario as a degree-granting post-secondary institution of higher learning. In 2007, Tyndale purchased the Morrow Park property from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto and in 2014, the move to the new 56-acre campus on Bayview Avenue was completed. Tyndale continues to build on its historic tradition as a vibrant, multidenominational institution of faith and learning. Tyndale’s diverse student body is engaged in comprehensive post-secondary education programs taught from a faith perspective. Tyndale University College provides undergraduate degree programs that prepare students for professional vocations and graduate studies. Tyndale Seminary, accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, offers graduate theological education at the master’s and doctoral levels. Tyndale presently has over 1,600 students representing more than 40 denominations and 60 ethnic backgrounds and over 12,500 alumni. [ Heading 14.2 ] THE MISSION Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. During the service, please turn off all electronic devices and keep aisles clear. 15 [ Page 16 of 16 ] [ Tyndale logo ] [ Heading 15 ] TYNDALE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE & SEMINARY 3377 Bayview Avenue Toronto, Ontario, M2M 3S4 Telephone: 416.226.6620 Fax: 416.226.6746 www.tyndale.ca ***** This is the end of the e-text.
