Janney also earned a B.A. in Psychology from Tyndale in May 2014. During her time at Tyndale, Janney served on the University College Student Council and the Board of Governors. She also worked as a donor steward in Tyndale's Development Office. Janney is grateful for how her experiences at Tyndale have nurtured her compassion for children and families. She married her husband Jason in June 2014 and they currently serve in children's and youth ministry at Harvest Bible Chapel in Markham. Janney and Jason look forward to what the future holds as they put their skills to work serving God. [ Heading 14 ] GRADUATING STUDENT SPEAKER - SEMINARY [ Heading 14.1 ] Teresa McWhirter Teresa (Terry) McWhirter grew up in the small town of Thornbury, on southern Georgian Bay. After graduating from university, she lived in Toronto and then returned home in the early 1990's and opened Bluewater Gallery. Utilizing her creative skills, Terry did custom framing and sold art and handcrafted works by Canadian artisans. She recalls, in 2004, a heartfelt conviction which eventually led her to Tyndale Seminary. While studying at Tyndale, she accepted a part-time position as administrator in the local Presbyterian church and it was here that she was called to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament. She is currently fulfilling the educational requirements of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. After years of commuting between Thornbury and Tyndale, she is now commuting to Presbyterian College in Montreal where she spends one week in full-time classes and then returns home to her placement at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Nottawa, not too far from where she lives. [ Page 17 of 20 ] [ Heading 15 ] CONVOCATION SPEAKER [ Heading 15.1 ] John H. Wilkinson John is currently the Executive Coach and Strategist of Toronto Youth For Christ (Youth Unlimited) as well as for the Eastern Region of YFC Canada. Prior to these roles, he was the ED of the Toronto Chapter having already served in several executive roles with YFC Canada for several decades. John's 25 years of service and teaching at Tyndale saw him establish a camp administration major as well as a youth ministry major (OBC) and then he created the first graduate program in youth ministry in North America at the seminary (OTS). He also served as the VP of Strategic Planning and as the VP and Academic Dean of the University College. In 2012, Tyndale awarded John the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. Prior to his educational involvements at Tyndale and his YFC initiatives, he was the first General Director of two very influential summer children's camps in Ontario: Canadian Keswick Youth Camp and Muskoka Woods Sports Resort. He completed a B.A.(honors) in sociology and psychology at the University of Winnipeg; a M.A. in school psychology at the University of Toronto; and then an Ed.D. in educational psychology at the same university. He has also done special course work in education at Harvard University. He is happily married to his wife Trish of 41 years and together they have two sons, Matthew and Mark. Trish and John are blessed by two wonderful daughter-in-laws and three grandchildren who enrich their lives immeasurably. [ Page 18 of 20 ] [ Heading 16 ] RECIPIENTS OF HONORARY DEGREE, DOCTOR OF DIVINITY [ Heading 16.1 ] Robert Ian Van Norman & Alice Marie Van Norman Robert Ian and Alice Marie Van Norman were both born in rural Manitoba and later met when both families moved to Winnipeg. They were later married in 1955. In 1963, Ian and Alice launched a Canadian Tire store in Smiths Falls, Ontario and began the long and highly successful career in business. Through much hard work and sacrifice, their business grew as did their family. New and exciting business opportunities eventually led to a move from their beloved home and church to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They became key players in many Christian initiatives in the city, across the country, and around the world. Ian and Alice have been travelling to Haiti for over thirty years. Their work in practical help through in this country is vast. The Van Normans have invested in the lives of the Haitian people, loving, aiding, and befriending them. In 2010 they were among the first who responded when the country was hit with a catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake. The Van Norman Charitable Foundation has assisted with reconstruction projects since this time. The Van Norman's generosity continues to reach those in need, most recently with the building of a hospital in Burundi named in their honour. Ian and Alice Van Norman are longtime supporters of Tyndale. Through their generous support, the Van Norman Worship and Study Centre was revitalized and transformed in 2004. In the spring of 2011 the Van Norman Chair of Business was established as a result of Ian and Alice's continued generosity. [ Page 19 of 20 ] [ Heading 17 ] ABOUT TYNDALE [Heading 17.1 ] THE HISTORY Tyndale University College & Seminary was founded in 1894 as the Toronto Bible Training School. Later known as Toronto Bible College, it merged with the London College of Bible and Missions in 1968 to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976 to offer graduate theological education. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring William Tyndale (1494-1536), the early English reformer whose commitment to making Scripture available to all persons led him to undertake the first English translation of the Bible. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, Tyndale was accorded university college status by the Province of Ontario. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary's graduate degrees, including the Doctor of Ministry degree, are accredited by The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). In 2007, Tyndale purchased the Morrow Park property from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. Tyndale is an evangelical, multi-denominational school with more than 9,500 alumni. [ Heading 17.2 ] THE MISSION Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. [ Heading 17.3 ] During the service, please turn off all electronic devices and keep aisles clear.
