GRADUATING STUDENT SPEAKER [ Heading 19a ] SARAH MARTIN, Bachelor of Education Sarah Martin obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Heritage Baptist College in 1999. That same year, she began teaching at Durham Christian Academy in Oshawa. She taught primary students at DCA for three years and particularly enjoyed the opportunity to pray with her students and to approach the curriculum from a Christian perspective. After several years of staying home with her three daughters and volunteering at church, school and in her neighbourhood, Sarah was ready to return to the classroom. Tyndale’s Bachelor of Education program offered the opportunity to continue teaching with credentials that are recognized in both private and public schools. While at Tyndale, Sarah loved the diversity reflected in the cohort and thrived under the exceptional professors. She was able to extend her understanding, expand her knowledge of current technology, collaborate with colleagues and practice what she was learning during her practicum placements. Sarah is looking to secure a teaching position and continues to volunteer in five inner-city Hamilton schools. She trusts that God will continue to give her opportunities to use her passion to serve others. 16 [ Page 17 of 20 ] [ Heading 20 ] GRADUATING STUDENT SPEAKER [ Heading 20a ] LINDA STOVER, Master of Divinity Influenced by a family with deep Christian roots, Linda Stover grew up with stories of her maternal grandparents who ministered in Africa and Canada, and the teachings of generations of lay pastors from her paternal heritage. Linda attended the University of Western Ontario with numerous scholarships. With an unexpected turn of events, she changed pathways and graduated from Humber College in Equine Studies, winning the William Bovaird Scholarship. Complementing this education with apprenticeships with two Olympic riders, and certification as a National Certified Coach and an Equine Canada Coach, she went on to build a career as an equestrian instructor and trainer. God has used her work in the horse industry to hone her teaching, coaching, mentoring and leadership skills. Linda has served the church in both volunteer and paid positions, as youth pastor and as guest speaker for various organizations and denominations. In her work with youth, she has led mission trips to three different countries and actively organizes youth unity events. For the past six years, Linda has worked as a part-time youth pastor in Orangeville. With the completion of her degree, she is now considering full-time ministry options. 17 [ Page 18 of 20 ] [ Heading 21 ] HONORARY DOCTORATE [ Heading 21a ] LINDA BOND Linda Bond was elected by the High Council as the 19th General of The Salvation Army in 2011. Born in Nova Scotia, General Bond’s early experience in Salvation Army corps life in Canada shaped her thinking and approach to ministry and prepared her for the time when she felt that God was calling her to make a lifetime commitment to him for service as an officer in The Salvation Army. General Bond says: “The call to officership came as a gentle whisper from the Lord and there has never been a day, not even a second, when I doubted this call." Linda Bond attended the college for officer training and was commissioned with the rank of lieutenant in 1969. In the ensuing years, she received several promotions in rank and held a wide range of national and international appointments within The Salvation Army. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education, General Bond holds Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from Tyndale Seminary. Through a period of many years she lectured regularly at The Salvation Army’s International College for Officers, in South-East London, and also effectively engaged her intellect and spiritual passion as a member of the Spiritual Life Commission. 18 [ Page 19 of 20 ] [ Heading 22 ] ABOUT TYNDALE [ Heading 22a ] The History Tyndale University College & Seminary was founded in 1894 as the Toronto Bible Training School. Later known as Toronto Bible College, it merged with London Bible Institute (established in 1935 and later known as London College of Bible and Missions) in 1968 to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring the heritage of the Father of the English Bible, William Tyndale (1494- 1536). Tyndale was an English reformer who studied and translated the Scriptures with a passion for the Christian faith and a willingness to follow God no matter the cost. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, Tyndale was accorded university college status by the provincial government. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry degree program is accredited by The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). In 2007, Tyndale purchased the Morrow Park property from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,600 students and more than 9,000 alumni. [ Heading 22b ] The Mission Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. 19 [ Page 20 of 20 ] TYNDALE • UNIVERSITY COLLEGE & SEMINARY • 25 Ballyconnor Court, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M2M 4B3 Telephone: 416.226.6620 Fax 416.226.6746 www.tyndale.ca ***** This is the end of the e-text.
