Tim grew up in Sherkston, Ontario, in the family home that has been passed down through four generations. He completed his undergraduate degree at Messiah College in Pennsylvania before coming to Ontario Theological Seminary for his Master of Divinity with a Youth Ministry major. After graduation in 1991, he worked in youth ministry at Spring Garden Baptist Church in North York. Following his marriage to his wife Liz and a year of working in the business sector, they moved to Belleville where Tim served for five years in establishing a new Brethren In Christ church plant, and a further two years as associate pastor with another Belleville church. Tim returned to Toronto to work with Bruxy Cavey who is Teaching Pastor at The Meeting House. Tim and Bruxy both graduated from OTS the same year and Tim had come to appreciate Bruxy's ministry gifts. As senior pastor, Tim leads a staff team of 60 talented women and men. He works closely with Bruxy to provide shared vision and strategic leadership for The Meeting House. Tim's wife Liz is working on a master's degree in disability studies and works in the area of autism. They have three children, Joshua, 8, Rachel, 12, and Nathan, 14. GRADUATING STUDENT SPEAKER Mark Groleau, MDiv 2011 Mark Groleau is graduating today with an MDiv in Pastoral Studies and is excited to see where God will lead him to serve as a pastor. Christian ministry, however, was not always his life's goal. He emphatically opposed the Christian faith after completing his undergraduate degree and leaving the church of his childhood. As an atheist, he moved to Korea to teach English for three years. While there, his life was impacted by the ministry of a wise American pastor and the tenacity of a vivacious Canadian girl named Naomi. By the time he found himself reading Henri Nouwen's Compassion on a Korean beach, he was a committed Christian again. He and Naomi were married by the American pastor. From their hometown of Ottawa, Mark and Naomi moved to Toronto to attend Tyndale together. Mark dedicated himself to his studies and was awarded the Dr. Stewart Boehmer Scholarship for Church Leadership, the Dr. William McRae Scholarship for Preaching, and the Prof. Donald Leggett Prize for Essay of the Year. He served on Seminary Student Council for three years, twice as President. He attends Spring Garden Church where he served as Pastoral Intern. Mark still loves Tyndale, Korea, teaching, and Naomi, who is graduating with him today with her MDiv in Counselling. 9 HONORARY DOCTORATE Bob Morris, BTh 1966 Bob Morris is an internationally known missionary statesman with a lifetime calling and commitment to the global church. Later known as Toronto Bible College, it merged with London Bible Institute (established in 1935 and later known as London College of Bible and Missions) in 1968 to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring the heritage of the Father of the English Bible, William Tyndale (1494-1536). Tyndale was an English reformer who studied and translated the Scriptures with a passion for the Christian faith and a willingness to follow God no matter the cost. In 2003, Tyndale was accorded university college status by the Province of Ontario. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary is accredited by The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). In 2007, Tyndale purchased the Morrow Park property from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto and since that time, a measured and gradual process of transition has continued. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,200 students and more than 9,000 alumni. THE CREST The centre piece of the crest for Tyndale University College & Seminary is a lantern, symbolic of Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Below the lantern is the Greek motto douloi Christou (servants of Christ) declaring the vision of the school for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to serve the Church and the world for the glory of God. Incorporated in the crest are the school colours: blue, burgundy and yellow. THE MISSION Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. During the service, please turn off all electronic devices and keep aisles clear.
