On his return to Canada, he attended London College of Bible and Missions (LCBM) and graduated in 1964. A year later, he married LCBM classmate, Gail Robinson. Terry started teaching at LCBM (1967-68) as Lecturer in Greek and Philosophy. Soon after, he moved to the Philippines with his wife as missionaries with SEND International. There, Terry taught theology at Asian Theological Seminary, while assisting in church planting, serving in mission leadership and being a member of the theological commission of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches. After leaving the Philippines in 1986, Terry continued to serve SEND International as a member of various boards and councils. In 1986, Terry was appointed Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Ontario Bible College, a position he held until 1989. He then moved to Providence College and Seminary to teach theology until his retirement and appointment as Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology and Ethics in July 2006. Terry has authored three books (Irenaeus on the Salvation of the Unevangelized, Providence and Prayer: How Does God Work in the World? and Who Can Be Saved?: Reassessing Salvation in Christ and World Religions), numerous academic essays and journal articles. He has presented papers and guest lectured North America and Europe. He has also been Visiting Scholar at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, Research Fellow at Yale Divinity School and Senior Mission Scholar at the Overseas Ministry Studies Center. [ Heading 10.2 ] Tyndale Seminary Lynn Smith, MDiv 1991 In 1983, Lynn entered the counselling program at Tyndale Seminary. During her years of study, she worked as Associate Dean of Students, initiating a program of student leadership and spiritual formation. She later became Dean of Students and then Vice President of Student Development. Questions raised by students about the role of women in the Church inspired her to study the issue, with the result being the book Gender or Giftedness. As a representative of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada to the World Evangelical Fellowship in 1992, Lynn was invited to speak and teach in Canada and around the world on the topics of gender, leadership and mentoring. She also served on the EFC Board for four years. [ Page 17 of 20 ] Graduation 2007 / 17 Lynn is married to Rev. Roger Smith. Both have held various leadership positions at Immanuel Baptist Church in Toronto and Lynn recently created an equipping team that helps individuals develop leadership abilities. Since retirement in 1999, Lynn has continued to invest in the lives of Christian women who desire to be more effective in their leadership roles. She is co-founder of NextLEVEL Leadership, which has a vision of seeing Canada transformed by having godly women find their voice and influencing their world. She also recently published a book in German, Mentoring: Leaving a Legacy. In 2006, Lynn was awarded the "Leading Women Award" for Education, Training and Development by the National Leading Women Conference. [ Heading 11 ] DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD 2007 [ Heading 11.1 ] Sabrina Low Sabrina Low, born in Hong Kong, moved with her husband, a medical doctor, to Malaysia and later to Australia. After his death, she and her children moved to Canada in 1984. Following her love for art, she enrolled in and graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design, and then immersed herself in creating paintings depicting the beauty of God's creation. Soon her art became a favourite of art galleries and lovers of art in Toronto and across Ontario. However it is more than just the love of being a creator of art that motivates her activities. Sabrina loves to teach the importance of appreciating and learning from art. In 1996, she began persuading artists to exhibit their works at Tyndale. As Tyndale's curator, she has transformed the second floor hallway, just outside the chapel, into an art gallery. Month after month, a different artist's works are displayed, some with explanations and others with none. Each is a challenge for all who pass by to stop for a moment, examine, reflect and learn. In 1998, when Tyndale chose to name itself after the British scholar, translator and reformer William Tyndale, Sabrina gifted to Tyndale an oil painting of him. With no existing drawing, Sabrina created one, depicting William Tyndale translating the Scriptures. Sabrina has served on the Board of Governors and is a member of the Corporation. Today, Sabrina Low receives the inaugural Tyndale Distinguished Service Award for her dedication to the ideals and people of Tyndale. [ Page 18 of 20 ] Graduation 2007 / 18 [ Heading 12 ] HONOURARY DOCTORATE 2007 [ Heading 12.1 ] Paul Henderson Paul Henderson founded The Leadership Group in 1985, a ministry that impacts marketplace leaders by influencing their character, belief and action. Paul started with three men in one group and now has approximately 90 groups with over 700 men attending weekly meetings. The object is to win them to Christ, strengthen them in their faith, train them with ministry skills and send them out to make a difference in their sphere of influence. Paul has taken many of them around the world to share their business and spiritual lives. Paul has used his profile as a former professional athlete and Canadian hockey hero for evangelistic opportunities throughout the country. Along with his wife, Eleanor, they are conference speakers at Family Life marriage conferences. He is also a sought-after motivational speaker in the corporate world. Paul is a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Award for distinguished community service. He sits as a Foundation Board member at Teen Ranch and has been on the Advisory Board for Muskoka Woods for the past 20 years. He is a member of several Sports Halls of Fame, including Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and in 1998, Paul received the Ontario Special Achievement Award for his contribution to minor hockey. The Toronto school was founded in 1894, and is the third oldest school (after Moody Bible Institute and Nyack College) of its kind in North America. Known first as Toronto Bible Training School and then as Toronto Bible College, the school was located near the University of Toronto. Its founding President was Rev. Elmore Harris, Minister of the historic Walmer Road Baptist Church and a member of the Massey-Ferguson family. London College of Bible and Missions was founded in 1935 as London Bible Institute by Dr. J. Wilmot Mahood. In 1968 LCBM and TBC merged, becoming Ontario Bible College. In 1976, the College moved to its present location in North York. The development of the graduate school, Ontario Theological Seminary, evolved naturally out of a demand by church, missions and students for graduate level studies. The name Tyndale was adopted in 1998 as part of a renewed vision to build a great centre of Christian higher education. Its namesake, William Tyndale, an early Protestant reformer and the first person to translate the Holy Scriptures from the original languages into English, serves as a model for scholarship, Christian faith and vision. On June 26, 2003 the Ontario Legislative Assembly passed Bill Pr21, which granted permission to change the name to Tyndale University College & Seminary and for the university to offer Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts Honours degrees in the humanities, social sciences and business. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,200 students and more than 9,000 alumni. [ Page 20 of 20 ] Graduation 2007 / 20 [ Heading 15 ] THE CREST OF TYNDALE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE & SEMINARY [ Tyndale logo/crest in on the left center of the page. ] The name is taken from the father of the English Bible, William Tyndale (1494-1536). Founded in 1894, Tyndale was first known as Toronto Bible Training School. In 1968 London College of Bible and Missions and Toronto Bible College merged. The lantern is a symbol taken from Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." The Greek term douloi Christou best describes Tyndale's vision, which is to be servants of Christ. Burgundy and blue are the school colours [ Heading 15.1 ] Our mission: To educate and equip Christians to serve the world with passion for Jesus Christ.
