Eloise is an alumna of Tyndale having graduated from London College of Bible and Missions in 1960 with a BTh degree. She later graduated from the University of Western Ontario with the Bachelor of Arts in English and history. Eloise returned to Ontario Bible College (OBC) with her husband Rev. Gordon Wright who taught history at the College for many years. When Gordon's eyesight failed, Eloise supported him by reading aloud every student essay and exam and recording the grades he assigned. Due to her keen interest and expertise in archiving and her work in organizing displays for the 90th anniversary celebrations of the school, Eloise was asked by Dr. William McRae, then president, to create archives for Tyndale including records and material from both founding schools in Toronto and London. Historical documents, books, audiovisuals, photographs and records were catalogued and preserved. Information about previous alumni and faculty was collected and a heritage room established to display the school's past. Throughout the years Eloise prepared many displays for special events and anniversaries. Her work in preserving links to the past in tangible form continues to inform and inspire researchers and the Tyndale community. [ Heading 8.B. ] Tyndale Seminary Ronald J. Unruh, MDiv, 1981 Ron Unruh is the President of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada, a western-based denomination of 144 churches that founded Trinity Western University and Seminary and catalyzed the consortium of 6 seminaries now known as the Association of Canadian Theological Schools. God's call to ministry began early in his life. He committed his life to Christ at the age of ten and from then, he was challenged with the calling of both preachers and missionaries. In 1969, Ron graduated from OBC with a BTh. As class president his graduation testimony resulted in a call from the Calvary Bible Church in Smith Falls, Ontario. In 1974, Ron, Christine and their two children moved to Peterborough, Ontario and pastored Ferndale Baptist Church for 7 years. During his time at Ferndale, Ron grew as a leader, preacher, peacemaker, mentor of pastoral interns, and completed an MDiv at [ Page 17 of 20 ] Graduation 2006 | 17 [continuation from last page] Ontario Theological Seminary. He also served as president of the city Evangelical Ministerial and on several denominational committees. In his 1981 graduation Ron's testimony led to a ministerial position with the Wishing Well Acres Baptist Church in Scarborough, Ontario. He served as adjunct faculty member at the College (OBC) and a member of its Personnel Committee. His public service includes president of the East Toronto Association of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches and the Canadian Board of Directors of World Radio Missionary Fellowship. In 1991 Ron became the pastor to Cloverdale Baptist Church in British Columbia. [ Heading 9 ] HONOURARY DOCTORATE 2006 [ Heading 9.A. ] Leighton Ford Leighton Ford known worldwide as an evangelist served some 30 years with Billy Graham Evangelistic Association preaching in more than 40 countries and on the "Hour of Decision." In 1985 he was named Clergyman of the Year by Religious Heritage of America, as Presbyterian Preacher of the Year by the National Presbyterian Centre. Time Magazine identified him as "among the most influential preachers of an active gospel." Today, under the Leighton Ford Ministries, he facilitates mentorship of young Christian leaders, enabling them in their spiritual and leadership development. Arrow Leadership Program, an international program, was his creation, designed to provide younger leaders with peer training and mentoring. Following the Lausanne Congress of 1974, he became chairman, shaping and developing this world body into a catalyst for cooperation among evangelicals. He continues as Honorary Lifetime Chairman. He also serves on the boards of World Vision US, Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, Duke University Cancer Centre and the Chrysalis Ministries. Leighton is the author of 10 books, including the award- winning, Sandy: A Heart for God (the biography of his son who died during heart surgery in 1981), Transforming Leadership, and his most recent. The Toronto school was founded in 1894, and is the third oldest school (after Moody Bible Institute and Nyack College) of its kind in North America. Known first as Toronto Bible Training School and then as Toronto Bible College, the school was located near the University of Toronto. Its founding President was Rev. Elmore Harris, Minister of the historic Walmer Road Baptist Church and a member of the Massey-Ferguson family. London College of Bible and Missions was founded in 1935 as London Bible Institute by Dr. J. Wilmot Mahood. In 1968 LCBM and TBC merged, and became Ontario Bible College. In 1976, the College moved to its present location in North York. The development of the graduate school, Ontario Theological Seminary, evolved naturally out of a demand by church, missions and students for a graduate level studies. The name Tyndale was adopted in 1998 as part of a renewed vision to build a great centre of Christian higher education. Its namesake, William Tyndale, an early Protestant reformer and the first person to translate the Holy Scriptures from the original languages into English, serves as a model for scholarship, Christian faith and vision. On June 26, 2003 the Ontario Legislative Assembly passed Bill Pr21, which granted permission to change the name to Tyndale University College & Seminary and for the University College to offer Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degrees in the humanities, social sciences and business. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,200 students and more than 9,000 alumni. [ Page 20 of 20 ] [ Heading 13 ] THE CREST OF TYNDALE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE & SEMINARY [Tyndale Crest is on the left side of the page] ■ The name is taken from the father of the English Bible, William Tyndale (1494-1536). ■ Founded in 1894, Tyndale was first known as Toronto Bible Training School. ■ In 1968 London College of Bible and Missions and Toronto Bible College merged. ■ The lantern is a symbol taken from Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." ■ The Greek term douloi Cristou best describes Tyndale's vision, which is to be servants of Christ.
