Later known as Toronto Bible College, it merged with the London College of Bible and Missions in 1968 to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976 to offer graduate theological education. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring William Tyndale (1494-1536), the early English reformer whose commitment to making Scripture available to all persons led him to undertake the first English translation of the Bible. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, Tyndale was accorded university college status by the Province of Ontario. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary's graduate degrees, including the new Doctor of Ministry degree, are accredited by The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). In 2007, Tyndale purchased a new campus at the Sisters of St. Joseph, Morrow Park. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,200 students and more than 9,000 alumni. [ Heading 4 ] THE CREST The centre piece of the crest for Tyndale University College & Seminary is a lantern, symbolic of Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Below the lantern is the Greek motto douloi Christou (servants of Christ) declaring the vision of the school for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to serve the Church and the world for the glory of God. [ Heading 5 ] THE MISSION Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. During the service, please turn off all electronic devices and keep aisles clear. FALL 2010 GRADUATION 2 [ Page 4 of 12 ] [ Heading 5 ] [order of the program] FALL 2010 GRADUATION ORGAN PRELUDE Dr. Elizabeth Davey Associate Professor of English CALL TO WORSHIP (please stand) Dr. Ronald Kydd Associate Professor of Church History PROCESSIONAL [ Hymn title ] PRAISE THE SOURCE OF FAITH AND LEARNING [ verse 1 ] Praise the source of faith and learning who has sparked and stoked the mind with a passion for discerning how the world has been designed. Let the sense of wonder flowing from the wonders we survey keep our faith forever growing and renew our need to pray. [ verse 2 ] God of wisdom, we acknowledge that our science and our art and the breadth of human knowledge only partial truth impart. Far beyond our calculation lies a depth we cannot sound where your purpose for creation and the pulse of life are found. [ verse 3 ] May our faith redeem the blunder of believing that our thought has displaced the grounds for wonder which the ancient prophets taught. May our learning curb the error which unthinking faith can breed lest we justify some terror with an antiquated creed. [ verse 4 ] As two currents in a river fight each other's undertow Till converging they deliver one coherent steady flow; Blend, O God, our faith and learning till they carve a single course. Till they join as one, returning praise and thanks to You, their Source. 3 [ Page 4 of 12 ] INVOCATION (please remain standing) Dr. Janet Clark Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs and Academic Dean, Seminary WELCOME Dr. Gary Nelson President and Vice Chancellor SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 12:1-8 Rick Cunningham Associate Director, Bachelor of Education Program REFLECTIONS BY GRADUATING STUDENTS Susan Winsor, Bachelor of Education Jennifer Bodnar, Master of Divinity Presented by Dr. Barbara Haycraft, Vice President and Dean of Student Life CONFERRING OF THE DEGREE DOCTOR OF DIVINITY (honoris causa) The Honourable Mr. Justice Michael Tulloch Introduced by Steven Holmes Chair, Board of Governors Conferred by Dr. Gary Nelson GRADUATION ADDRESS, "BECOMING A TRANSFORMATIVE FORCE IN A CONFORMATIVE WORLD" The Honourable Mr. Justice Michael Tulloch CONGREGATIONAL HYMN (please stand) Colin Owen Worship Coordinator [ Hymn title ] IN CHRIST ALONE [ verse 1 ] In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand [ verse 2 ] In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live [ verse 3 ] There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again 4 [ Page 5 of 12 ] [continuation of hymn from previous page] And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ [ verse 4 ] No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life's first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I'll stand CONFERRING OF DEGREES, DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES Dr. Gary Nelson Dr. Daniel Scott, Vice President and Academic Dean, University College Dr. Janet Clark Dr. Timothy Thomas, Registrar PRAYER OF DEDICATION Dr. Arthur Boers Associate Professor, R.J.
