Later known as Toronto Bible College, it merged with London Bible Institute (established in 1935 and later known as London College of Bible and Missions) in 1968 to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring the heritage of the Father of the English Bible, William Tyndale (1494-1536). Tyndale was an English reformer who studied and translated the Scriptures with a passion for the Christian faith and a willingness to follow God no matter the cost. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, Tyndale was accorded university college status by the provincial government. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary programs are accredited by The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). In 2007, Tyndale purchased the Morrow Park property from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. Tyndale is an evangelical, transdenominational school with over 1,200 students and more than 9,000 alumni. [ Heading 3.2 ] THE CREST The crest of Tyndale University College & Seminary displays the school colours—blue and burgundy—and the Greek motto douloi Cristou— which describes the school's vision for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to be servants of Christ. The lantern is symbolic of Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. [ Heading 3.3 ] THE MISSION Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. During the service, kindly turn off all electronic devices and keep aisles clear. 2 [ Page 3 of 12 ] [order of the program ] [ Heading 4 ] SPRING 2010 GRADUATION ORGAN PRELUDE Dr. Elizabeth Davey Associate Professor of English PROCESSIONAL (please stand) Dr. Barbara Haycraft Vice President and Dean of Student Life [ hymn title ] JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE YOU [ verse 1 ] Joyful, joyful, we adore you, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before you, opening to the sun above. Forced to join the exodus to the jungle villages, the whole family was marched to a grave and killed one by one. Young Reaksa, gravely wounded, was covered by the bodies of his brothers and sisters. In time, he escaped the killing fields and fled to a Thai refugee camp. He eventually made his way to Canada and attended Tyndale, graduating with a Bachelor of Religious Studies degree in 1993. Continuing his studies, he earned a Master of Arts in Christian Education (Providence Theological Seminary, 1996) and a Doctor of Psychology (Southern California University, 2004). He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Providence Theological Seminary in 2007. He is the author of The Tears of My Soul, which describes his journey to freedom, faith and purpose, and After the Heavy Rain, which tells of his journey of forgiveness and reconciliation to the people who killed his family. Dr. Himm and his wife Sophaly Eng have two children—Philos and Sophia—and together serve as church planters in Cambodia. One of the churches they founded is in the village where his family was killed. Knowing too well the suffering of his people, his message is clear: "Nothing will ever make them whole again except the healing message of the hope, love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ." [ Heading 13 ] GRADUATING STUDENT SPEAKER [ Heading 13.1 ] IOAN CHRISTOPHOR DRAGOS, BA HONOURS, PHILOSOPHY loan (Chris) Dragos, originally from Paris, Ontario, is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Philosophy, with a minor in History. Since enrolling at Tyndale in 2006, Chris has developed a keen interest in the area of the history and philosophy of science and mathematics. As a result of this and his excellent academic achievements, he has been accepted into a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy at Ryerson University for Fall 2010. His long term goal is to pursue doctoral studies. During his four years at Tyndale, Chris also distinguished himself outside of the classroom. He was involved in various leadership roles, including Student Senator (2008), Secretary-Treasurer for the Student Council (2009), and most recently, as President of the Student Council (2010). In his capacity as the Council President, he was appointed to the Tyndale Board of Governors and sat on the Academic Council. Chris enjoys reading, music, and playing soccer at a competitive level. He is from a large family (he has sixteen siblings!) and hopes to visit his ancestral home of Romania this summer. 10 [ Page 11 of 12 ] [ Heading 14 ] HONORARY DOCTORATE [ Heading 14.1 ] ARCHIBALD MCLEAN Archibald (Archie) McLean was called to the Board of Governors in 1995. In his fourteen years as Chair, he built a new Board and was instrumental in helping Tyndale achieve a strengthened financial position. During his tenure, Tyndale gained university college status (2003), received approval to grant the Bachelor of Education (2007) and Doctor of Ministry (2009) degrees, and purchased the Morrow Park property from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. He continues to serve Tyndale as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors and Vice Chair of the Uncommon Ground Capital Campaign. A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University (Honours BA, 1964), Mr. McLean's marketplace experience includes senior executive positions with McCain Foods Limited (President and CEO) and Maple Leaf Foods, Inc. (Vice Chairman and CEO), from which he retired in 1998. His generosity of time, energy and resources have been extended beyond Tyndale to many boards, including those he presently chairs—Transport for Christ, Nation at Prayer, Give and Go Prepared Foods, and Visionledd; and those on which he serves—Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (Canada), Pinty's Delicious Foods, New Food Creations, and BWS Steel Fabrication; and those for which he is past chair—Youth for Christ, Canadian Frozen Food Association, Canadian Food Processor Association, Food Institute of Canada, and the University of New Brunswick Business Advisory Council. A man of his word and a man of the Word, Mr. McLean is a frequent speaker at churches and ministry events. He and his wife Kay reside in Woodstock, New Brunswick and have six children— Darlene, Paul, Corrine, Stephen, Deborah, Timothy—and seventeen grandchildren. 11 [ Page 12 of 12 ] [ Heading 15 ] THANK YOU Thank you for celebrating this special day with us!
