Later known as Toronto Bible College, it merged with the London College of Bible and Missions in 1968 to become Ontario Bible College. The Seminary was established in 1976 to offer graduate theological education. In 1998, the name Tyndale was assumed, honouring William Tyndale [1494-1536), the early English reformer who undertook the first English translation of the Bible. He is a model for scholarship, faith, and vision. In 2003, Tyndale was accorded university college status by the Province of Ontario. In 2007, Tyndale received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and from the Ontario College of Teachers to offer a Bachelor of Education program. The Seminary’s graduate degrees, including the Doctor of Ministry degree, are accredited by The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). On April 1, 2013 Tyndale took offi- cial possession of a beautiful, 56-acre property on Bayview Avenue, the former home of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto. This is the new, consolidated home of Tyndale University College & Seminary. Tyndale is an evangelical school with more than 1,600 students repre- senting 40 denominations and 60 ethnic backgrounds and 9,500 alumni. [ Heading 3.2 ] THE MISSION Tyndale is dedicated to the pursuit of truth, to excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God. With salvation’s walls surrounded, thou mayst smile at all thy foes. [ verse 2 ] See the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love, well supply thy sons and daughters and all fear of want remove. Who can faint, while such a river ever will their thirst assuage? Grace which, Like the Lord, the Giver, never fails from age to age. [ verse 3 ] Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear for a glory and a covering, showing that the Lord is near. Thus deriving from their banner light by night, and shade by day; safe they feed upon the manna which He gives them when they pray. 3 [ Page 4 of 16 ] [ verse 4 ] Savior, if of Zion’s city, I through grace a member am, Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Thy Name. Fading is the world's best pleasure, all its boasted pomp and show; solid joys and lasting treasure none but Zion’s chiLdren know. [ verse 2 ] Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love. [ verse 3 ] To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish but naught changeth Thee. At the age of fifteen, Peter returned to Seoul where he completed high school and then spent two years working, and volunteering at his church. Prior to coming to Tyndale in 2009, Peter went on a short- term missions trip to Thailand; it was there that he received his initial calling to advocate on behalf of those trapped in the human trafficking industry. As his relationship with God deepened, his vision widened and clarified through yet another short-term missions trip to Kolkata, India with a team from Tyndale. It was during his first year at Tyndale that Peter was confirmed in his calling to become a human rights lawyer working for organizations that combat human trafficking. In the next step of this journey, after his graduation from Tyndale, Peter plans to attend a law school in Canada. In reflecting on his time as a Tyndale student, Peter acknowledges the countless blessings he has received from God in this place. He is thankful particularly for God’s provision of the financial means to pursue his university studies, for the staff and faculty who have both cared for him and sharpened his mind, for the many trials that have shaped and strengthened his character and faith, and (last but not least) for his beautiful and supportive wife, Chloe, a fellow Tyndale student whom he married after his second year. Peter and Chloe share the same life vision, and love their Scottish Fold cat, "Monkey.’’ 13 [ Page 14 of 16 ] [ Heading 14 ] HONORARY DOCTORATE [ Heading 14.1 ] Lascelles George Newman, PhD Lascelles George Newman has been President of the Caribbean Grad- uate School of Theology (CGST) in Kingston, Jamaica since 2008.
